NYFW F/W 2017 - Grunge Look - Hakan Akkaya

Day 2 of New York Fashion Week brought this blogger to multiple shows. I wanted to share with you guys my look to the super edgy Hakan Akkaya show. I really think it matched the collection and vibe of the show. I went with a comfortable grunge look, which looked very different than my first two
outfits. I really wanted all my looks to be different. One thing I crave from my kloset is versatility; that is definitely my favorite part of fashion because there is something liberating about taking a piece you put together one way once and flipping it into something different the next time you put it on.

Fishnets are currently a big trend and I rocked mine underneath a pair of ripped denim. The jeans made a statement because they are literally ripped from top to bottom, and I love the fishnets peeking out! I completed the outfit with a plaid top and went with the half tuck to give me more of an unfinished look. Unfinished doesn't have to mean sloppy guys! The fringe purse and moto jacket gave the look that edgy touch I wanted. I originally had the fishnet/denim look planned a totally different way but rule number one that I learned during #NYFW with my outfits is that there has to be a lot of improvising.

The Hakan Akkaya show had only one word to describe it: badass! The ready to wear collection consisted of 108 pieces, with clothes both for men and women. The show really felt like a party with models walking down the runway with so many "sporty couture" looks. The music and the vibe of the show felt very much like New York City. I loved that; as a DC transplant, I've missed New York a lot more than I thought I could and this show represented my hometown. I think a lot of the nostalgia I felt had to do with the hues chosen by the designer.

The turkish designer kept the collection to black and white tones with elaborate details on every look, whether it was velvet to sequin and the frilly details we all love. The show had a concept of "Freedom". As stated in his program's notes, he came up with the theme by questioning whether people can live and think as free as they want regardless of their religion, race, or sex? It's possible that this collection was his response to everything that has been going on around the world, and I left feeling very moved.

Here's some looks from the show. Enjoy!
