When I first started blogging full-time I had no sense of a schedule. It was a big adjustment for me and I was just kind of working endlessly. As I started to get the hang of it and how to work for myself I quickly learned I needed to work certain hours and then call it a day. It is very important for my mind and body to relax, just as I would do if I was to leave an office at the end of the day.
I love relaxing by watching my favorite shows on TV. I have a ton of favorite shows I follow and I recently added a new one to my list. I started watching a new Showtime series called The Chi and (spoiler alert) it is a heartfelt drama. It takes place on the South Side of Chicago and it is surprising how much of a connection the characters have to each other and don't even really know it.
I was interested in watching the show because it took place on the South Side of Chicago aka the not so nice area of Chicago people don't really see. When I visited Chicago back in 2015 with my husband we visited the touristy areas in downtown Chicago, and I truly fell in love with that city. I knew, however, that Chicago had bad areas just as every city does but it was hard for me to imagine it because the area I was in was so mesmerizing and beautiful. As I started watching the first episode and saw the urban area of Chicago, I thought to myself "man, the struggle is real." The characters are faced with so much structural adversity, like consistent gun violence and rampant drug use. After the first episode, I told my husband how much I loved the show and how crazy the South Side of Chicago is and he told me there is more to Chicago than Chicago-style hotdogs by the Navy Pier. That is so true!
Brandon is one of my favorite characters so far because despite the odds of living on the South Side he's really trying to get his life together by becoming a chef and owning a restaurant. Unfortunately, he's left with a tough decision that can mess all that up for him because of a close death. I won't spoil it for you guys but it definitely made me cry.
