The first time we took Leah outside for longer than an hour I honestly didn't know what to pack in the diaper bag with me. I'm the type of person that always likes to be prepared for the worst so let's jus say I packed the entire nursery with me minus the crib and changing table. Haha! The first month postpartum I didn't go out at all except for her one month appointment (which is 5 minutes away) so I didn't really give it thought about what to pack in a diaper bag when we go out for long periods of time. As the recovery process got better my husband and I started making longer trips with her outside, to the mall, restaurants, and to shoot looks. I remember stuffing that bag to capacity. I kept thinking all the worst case scenarios happening in my head and thinking man what if I need this. Ironically the first time we took her on a road trip (when she had jus turned 2 months) to NY I forgot to pack extra wipes and let's just say I had to become MacGyver at a rest stop because they did not sell baby wipes and I was complete out and had a stinky diaper to clean.
Leah is now about a week away from turning 4 months old and I have kind of gauged on what to pack for her Whether it's short trip to the mall or longer trip like visiting family in NY no more packing the entire nursery with me. I've learned on what's essential and a must in my bag.
What's In My Diaper Bag?
The essentials
diapers, ointment, wipes, lotion, hand sanitizer, bips, burping cloths, expressed milk/bottles, nursing cover ( which doubles as a car seat cover) a teething ring
Extra clothes
2 long sleeve onesies, 2 short sleeve onesies, 2 pair of pants - in case she gets dirty.
socks and a hat - these things are small and can get lost easily
Entertainment
as she's getting older I carry 2 soft cloth books with bright colors that make crinkling noisy but this girl is a people watcher whenever we are waiting somewhere outside.
